橋場のお化け地蔵（松吟寺）

橋場のお化け地蔵
　「お化け地蔵」の名には、かつて大きな笠をかぶり、その笠が向きをかえたから、あるいは高さ3メートル余の並はずれて大きいからなど、いくつかの伝承がある。
　この辺りは、室町時代以来、禅宗の名刹総泉寺の境内地であった。門前一帯を浅茅ヶ原といい、明治40年（1907）刊『東京名所図会』には「浅茅ヶ原の松並木の道の傍らに大いなる石地蔵ありしを維新の際並木の松を伐りとり、石地蔵は総泉寺入口に移したり」とあり、「当寺入口に常夜灯あり、東畔に大地蔵安置す」とも記している。
　お化け地蔵の台石によれば、この石仏は享保6年（1721）の建立。関東大震災で2つに折れたが、補修し現在にいたっており頭部も取りかえられている。常夜灯は、寛政2年（1790）に建てられた。
　総泉寺は、昭和4年（1929）板橋区へ移転した。「お化け地蔵」近くにある「元総泉寺境内諸仏供養の為」の碑は移転に際し建てられたものと思われる。

　　　　　　　　OBAKE(BOGY)JIZO
 Once upon a time this area was within the premises of Sosenji Temple.The bogy Jizo is located at a corner of the Sosenji Temple and initially it was called "baby-raising Jizo."But the jizo,an image in stone,had a large hat and a large height of more than 3m.So,some people said that the hat moved in derection,and then they used to call it obake(bogy)Jizo.
 According to the foundation stone of the Jizo,it is recorded that the Jizo was built in 1721 and broken into two pieces after the Great Kanto Earthquake but it was repaired with the head portion replaced.
