浅草文庫跡碑（榊神社）

　浅草文庫は、明治7年（1874）7月に創設された官立の図書館である。翌明治8年（1875）に開館し、公私の閲覧に供した。当時の和・漢・洋の蔵書数は11万余冊ともいわれている。現在、その蔵書は、国立公文書館内閣文庫や国立国会図書館、東京国立博物館などに所蔵され、太政大臣三条実美の筆蹟と伝える「浅草文庫」の朱印が押されている。
　明治14年（1881）5月に閉鎖。跡地は翌明治15年（1882）に設立の東京職工学校（旧東京高等工業学校、現東京工業大学）の敷地の一部となった。関東大震災後の大正13年（1924）、当時の東京高等工業学校は目黒区大岡山に移転。
　昭和3年（1928）に現在地に移ってきた榊神社のあたりは、かつて、浅草文庫が位置していたところである。高さ約4メートルの碑は、この文教の旧地を記念して、昭和15年（1940）11月建立された。

      MONUMENT OF ASAKUSA PUBLIC LIBRARY
 In July 1874,the Asakusa public library was esstablished,and opened the following year for private and public use.
 While it was open,the library was said to have anywher between 110,000 to 13,000 books written in Japanise,Chinese and Western Languages.These books are now housed in the National Official document Cabinet library,National Diet Library and Tokyo National Museum Library.All the books that were in the Asakusa library have the sramp of the Asakusa library,that was hand stamped by on of the Cabinet ministers of the day,Sanjo Sanetomi.
 The library closed in May 1881 and in the following year,it became a part of Tokyo Techinology High School,now known as the Tokyo technology University.In 1924 the Tokyo Technology High School meved to it's current position in Ookayama in Meguro City.
 In 1928,the current Sakaki shrine was buuilt.Later in November 1940 the current monument(approx 4m)to mark the place of the previous Asakusa library as a cultural and educational area was built.
