下村観山墓
　明治から昭和初期にかけての画家、本名は晴三郎。明治6年（1873）和歌山に生まれる。幼少から絵を好み、明治14年（1881）上京。狩野芳崖、橋本雅邦に師事、ついで東京美術学校（現在、東京芸術大学）に学び、明治27年（1894）卒業同校助教授となった。明治31年（1898）、岡倉天心の日本美術院創立に参加し、菱田春草、横山大観らと活躍した。その後、教授に復職、また、文部省留学生としてヨーロッパに渡り、明治38年（1905）帰国する。
　当時、日本美術院は不振の難局にあり、天心がその絵画部を茨城県五浦（北茨城市）に移したとき、観山も大観らと同所に転居した。明治40年（1907）第1回文展に「木の間の秋」を出品、好評を得た。明治45年（1912）、五浦を引き上げ、新居を横浜にかまえた。
　大正2年（1913）岡倉天心が没し、翌大正3年（1914）大観らと日本美術院を再興、現代日本美術の発展に寄与した。観山は多くの名作を発表したが、なかでも歴史を題材としたものを得意とし、「弱法師」は代表作である。
昭和5年（1930）5月、58歳で没した。

           TOMB OF SHIMOMURA KANZAN
 Kanzan was a painter from the Meiji to early Showa periods.His original name was Seizaburo.He was born in 1873 in Wakayama prefecture.He loved paintings from an early age and came to Tokyo in 1881.He stndied under Kano Hogai and Hashimoto Gaho.Studied at the Tokyo School of Art (now Tokyo Art University),graduated in 1894,and became an assistant professor there.In 1898,he participated in Okakura tenshin's establishment of the Japan Academy of Art along with Hishida Shunso and Yokoyama Taikan.He later returned to be a professor.He also studied in Europe as a Ministry of Education foreign student.When Tenshin moved his paintings department to Izura Ibaraki prefecture (present day Kita-Ibaraki city),Kanzan,along with Taikan,moved there.In the first Ministry of Education Exhibit,in 1907,he entered his "Ko-no-ma-no-AKI"and achieved nide acclaim.In 1912,he moved from Izura and established his new home in YOkohama.
 When Tenshin died in 1913,he resurrected the Academy with Taikan in 1914 and contributed to  the development of modern art in Japan.Kanzan themes.Died in 1930 at age 58.



　安立寺境内には『江戸千家歴代の墓』があります。
