浅間神社
（浅草のお富士さん・台東区有形民俗文化財）

　浅間神社は、富士山への信仰に基き勧請された神社で、神体として「木造木花咲耶姫命坐像」を安置する。
　創建年代は不明だが、『浅草寺志』所収「寛文11年江戸絵図」に表記があり、江戸時代初期の寛文11年（1671）までには鎮座していたようである。現在の鎮座地は、約2メートルほどの高みを成しているが、忠誠から江戸初期にかけて、関東地方では人口の塚、あるいは自然の高みに浅間神社を勧請する習俗があったとされており、当神社の立地もそうした習俗に基くものと思われる。
　江戸時代には浅草寺子院修善院の管理のもと、修験道による祭祀が行われ、江戸を代表する富士信仰の聖地として、各所の富士講講員たちの尊崇を集めた。明治維新後は浅草寺の管理を離れ、明治6年（1873）には浅草神社が社務を兼ねることとなり、現在に至っている。
　本殿は、平成9年（1997）、平成10年（1998）の改修工事によって外観のみ新たに漆喰塗がほどこされたが、内部には明治11年（1878）建築の土蔵造り本殿が遺されている。さらに、この改修工事に伴う所蔵品調査により、江戸時代以来の神像・祭祀用具・古文書などが大量に確認された。
　これら、本殿・諸資料群・境内地は、江戸時代以後の江戸・東京における富士信仰のありさまを知る上で貴重であり、平成11年（1999）3月、台東区有形民俗文化財に指定された。
　祭礼は、毎年7月1日の「富士山開き」が著名で、また、5、6月の最終土・日曜日には植木市が開催されている。

                       Sengen Shrine
 Sengen shrine is a shrine based on the faith for Mt.Fuji and built in numerous places in  the Kanto and Tokai Regions.
 This particular Sengen shrine was built by the year 1671,and worships the god Konohanasakuyahime(goddess).From the 18th to the 19th centuries,a Mt.Fuji faith group(Fuji-ko)was organized in all parts of Edo.However,many Fuji-ko followers gathered at this shrine,and it vecame famous as the Sengen shrine representing Edo.
 During the Plant Festival held on the last Saturdays of May and June,and during the"Mt.Fuji Opening "on July 1,even now many followers go on pilgrimages to this shrine.
 The current main shrine building was reconstructed in 1998,but the inner shrine,which was constructed in 1878 in a storage house,style was left intact.Also,in the shrine are many items,including such things as figures of gods,articles of worship,and antique documents.At any rate,the Mt.Fuji faith after the 18th century has been recognized  as being very valuable and was designated a Taito City Folklore Cultural Asset in 1999.
