渋江抽斎墓
　江戸末期の医師・儒学者。諱は全善、字は道純、抽斎は号である。文化2年（1805）、弘前藩医の子として江戸神田に生まれる。
　弘化元年（1844）、現在の浅草橋4丁目の地にあった医学館（東京大学医学部の前身）の講師になる。医学を井沢蘭軒に、儒学を市野迷庵・狩谷棭斎に学ぶ。友人の医師森枳園との共著『経籍訪古志』（全八巻）は名高く、日本に伝わる漢籍の所蔵・伝来・体裁等を記したもので書誌学者・蔵書家としての抽斎の見識の高さが窺える。医師としての業績に、種痘治療法を記述した『護痘要法』の著書がある。
　安政5年（1858）コレラに罹り、54歳で没し、当寺に葬られた。境内の「渋江道純墓碣銘」は、抽斎の事蹟を刻むもので、漢学者海保漁村が撰した文を、書家小島成斎が記し、ともに生前の親交が深かった。
　没後、森鴎外の史伝『渋江抽斎』によって、初めて抽斎の名が一般に知られるようになった。

　　　　　　The Grave of Shibue Chusai
 Shibue Chusai was a medical practitioner and Confucian scholar at the end of the Edo period (1600-1868).He was born in Kanda in Edo(old Tokyo)in 1805,the son of the doctor to the Hirosaki clan.
 In 1844 he became a teacher at the medical research center in present-day Asakusabashi 4-chome(the research center is now the medical department of Tokyo University).His worksinclude"Keiseki Hokoshi"which he wrote in collaboration with Mori Kien.
 In 1858 Chusai caught cholera,dying at the age of 54.He was buried in this temple.It was not until after his death that Chusai's name first became widely known through the biography "Shibue Chusai"by the famous novelist Mori Ogai.
