浅草御蔵跡碑

　浅草御蔵は、江戸幕府が全国に散在する直轄地すなわち天領から年貢米や買い上げ米などを収納、保管した倉庫である。大坂、京都二条の御蔵とあわせて三御蔵といわれ、特に重要なものであった。浅草御蔵は、また浅草御米蔵ともいい、ここの米は、主として旗本、御家人の給米用に供され、勘定奉行の支配下に置かれた。
　元和6年（1620）浅草鳥越神社の丘を切り崩し、隅田川西岸の奥州街道沿い、現在の柳橋2丁目、蔵前1、2丁目にかけての地域を埋め立てて造営した。このため、それ以前に江戸にあった北の丸、代官町、矢の蔵などの米蔵は、享保（1716～1736）頃までに浅草御蔵に吸収された。
　江戸中期から幕末まで、浅草御蔵の前側を「御蔵前」といい、蔵米を取り扱う米問屋や札差の店が立ち並んでいた。現在も使われている「蔵前」という長命が生まれたのは、昭和9年（1934）のことである。
　碑は、昭和31年（1956）6月1日、浅草南部商工観光協会が建立したものである。

       MONUMENT FOR THE TRACE OF ASAKUSA OKURA WAREHOUSE
 Asakusa warehouse was used for storing and keeping rice and so forth taht was submitted and paid as tax from land scattered across the country which was directly controlled by the Tokugawa Government,Rice in  the Asakusa was under the control of the chief treasurer.The warehouse was built in 1620 by excavating th hill of the Asakusa Torigoe Shrine and by filling the ground with earth at the present place.
 The front side of the Asakusa warehouse was called the "warehouse front" and there were many stores of rice wholesaters,weight checkers,momeytenders,etc.on this front side.
 The town name Kuramae was born in 1934 front the word OKURA front.
